Fan first he cam tae Kilbogie toun
Wi his wee short coat and his tartan plaidie
First fan he cam his bonnie lassie tae see
She lay in her bed til the brakfast wis ready

She said she wirkit oot into the fields
Oot into the fields alang wi her daddie
But fine kent he by her lily fite hand
She lay in her bed til the brakfast wis ready

Oh, fan the brakfast wis laid oot
It wis laid oot and gotten ready
Up spake her mither untae her
"Hae nothin' tae dae wi a Hiеlan' laddie."

So thay baith gaed oot tae tak a walk
Taе tak a walk til the dinner wis ready
He hystit her up on his high horse's back
And she's faur, faur awa fae her hame in Kilbogie

Fan it's first tae the Heilans thay cam
Thare wis naethin' thare fittin for a lady
Thare wis naebody thare tae welcome her hame
But an auld cankered carl and an auld doitit wifie

Well, the teen, he cawed her Lawlan' Jean
And the tither, she cawed her Lawlan' Jennie
But she's cawed thaim a far better thing
It's ma Hielan' daddie and ma Hielan' mammie

Oh, fan at last tae the Hielans thay cam
Thare wis naethin' thare fittin for a lady
Naething thare tae lie doun upon
But a wee pickle heather and his tartan plaidie

But barley rigs are better bonnie
Thay'll stand up tae the wind and the rain
Fan yer sheep thay'll dee in the wintry wather."
