Paul Shapera
The Road to Carcosa
[Paul]
About last May I came across the yellow sign
We went down to town that weekend with kids and the wife
Something with politics, some people upset
But I don't pay that no mind, I usually stay out of it
And oh, who knows where roads might lead
Past your mind and through your dreams
I came upon it in the night on the net
And I clicked on it a bit, just to see where it led
Ideas and secrets that seemed crazy at first
But each night I read more, and each evening I learned
And oh, who knows where roads might lead
Past your mind and through your dreams
[Matthew, spoken]
Though most could not remember ever having read it
There were those few whose minds echoed its shade
What story it relates, none can fully tell
It's authors identity is lost to the ages
A few words linger upon the lips of the enthralled
Carcosa, Yhtill, The Stranger, The Black Stars
As the years rolled on and the new age of madness in the free lands entered a fevered pitch
Family and loved ones recoiled as those they thought they knew
Became gripped by an onslaught of unbridled, naked hate
[Multiple Voices]
The fall of my life came after
(Hastur waits and bides his time)
And all of my mind was scattered
(All unwinds the yellow sign)
The fall of my life came after (down, down, down)
(Hastur waits and bides his time)(Conspiracies, divinities, and heresies consume your mind)
And all of my mind was scattered
(And all unwinds the yellow sign)
The fall of my life came after (down, down, down)
(Haster waits and bides his time)(Validities upon peripheries you seek until you're blind)
And all of my mind was scattered
(All unwinds the yellow sign)
The fall of my life came after (Spiral down my child)
(Spiral down and down and down and down)
And all of my mind was scattered
[Matthew, spoken]
Their targets invisible
Their claims outrageous
Their beliefs absolute and unshakable
Something had been stolen from them
A debt that must be paid in blood
Those delicate souls who sensed the shape of all things
Shuddered under the shadow of malevolent wings unfurling in the heavens above
The Pallid Mask haunted their restive dreams
The King in Yellow had returned
[Paul]
Now I got barbed wire, I got guns pointing out
Through the windows, though it's not like anyone comes around
Inside it's filled with garbage, but there's paths through that wind
To places I don't recognize and still yellow signs
And oh, who knows where roads might lead
Past your mind and through your dreams
